Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has called on Nigerian youths to cultivate patience, meticulousness, and a methodical approach in their endeavors. Speaking at an interactive session organized by the Legislative Mentorship Initiative, Abbas shared his insights on how the current generation can leverage their unique position in an era of unparalleled educational and technological advancements.

In a video posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, Abbas acknowledged the exceptional opportunities available to today’s youth. He commended them for benefiting from the best education and cutting-edge technology, which, according to him, surpasses the resources available during his own time.

“The younger generation is incredibly fortunate,” Abbas remarked. “You have access to top-tier education and advanced technology that was not available to us. The vast knowledge and global information at your fingertips are assets we did not have.”

Abbas emphasized that, while today’s youth excel in many areas, there is one critical skill that requires improvement: attention to detail and patience. He noted that the immediacy of information available on the internet, while advantageous, often leads to a hurried approach in completing tasks.

“In the past, obtaining knowledge required a lot more effort,” Abbas explained. “You had to visit libraries, consult multiple books, and read extensively to find answers. Now, the internet provides quick solutions, but this convenience sometimes means that you miss out on understanding the process behind the answers.”

He continued, “The older generation might have had an advantage in terms of being thorough and detail-oriented, skills developed through more painstaking methods of acquiring knowledge. I believe this is an area where the younger generation could benefit from improving—by embracing patience and following processes from start to finish.”

Despite this, Abbas expressed his pride in the achievements of today’s youth. He acknowledged their versatility and success in various fields, noting that they outperform previous generations in many respects. His advice was meant to help bridge the gap between the strengths of the current generation and the traditional skills that are still valuable.

“The younger generation is doing exceptionally well overall,” Abbas concluded. “It’s just a matter of refining certain skills like attention to detail and patience. We are very proud of your progress and believe that with these improvements, you will achieve even greater success.”
