The President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has advocated for increased parliamentary cooperation between Serbia and Nigeria.

During a meeting with Ana Brnabic, the President of the Serbian Parliament, in London on Wednesday, Akpabio emphasized the importance of enhancing collaboration between the two countries’ parliamentary bodies.

According to a statement issued by Jackson Udom, the Senate President’s Special Assistant on Media, the discussions between both leaders covered various topics of mutual interest and explored avenues to strengthen parliamentary ties.

“The meeting, initiated by Ms. Brnabic, also delved into matters concerning the International Parliamentary Union (IPU). Both parliamentarians agreed to reconvene soon, with the Serbian lawmaker extending a formal invitation to Nigeria’s Senate President to visit Serbia, with the date yet to be announced,” the statement read.

Senator Akpabio, who recently assumed a role in the Executive Committee of the IPU, has been actively engaged in advocating for peace, as demonstrated by his notable speech addressing the conflict in Gaza and urging for a ceasefire at the recent IPU meeting in Geneva, Switzerland.

Accompanying Akpabio to the meeting were Asuquo Ekpenyong, Chairman of the Senate Committee on NDDC, and Nigeria’s Acting High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Cyprian Terseer Heens.
