The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has exposed a total of 1,665 fraudulent A-Level results during the Direct Entry registration for the year 2023. Professor Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB, revealed this during a meeting with the leadership of the National Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) at his office in Abuja on Tuesday.

Oloyede expressed concern over the prevalence of corruption within the A-level results verification process, stating that 397 of the fake results were from Colleges of Education, 453 were university diplomas, and the remainder were from other A-level certificates. He emphasized the importance of preserving the integrity of A-level certificates used for securing admissions through measures that are robust and enduring.

The Registrar recalled instances where the board had relied solely on awarding institutions to conduct screening and due diligence for Direct Entry applications in the past. However, revelations from Bayero University, Kano, were particularly shocking, as only six out of 148 certificates submitted for processing were found to be genuine.

The discovery of such widespread fraud prompted JAMB to convene a meeting of key stakeholders to address the issue.

Eegunjobi Samuel, President of NANCES, commended the Registrar for his efforts in restoring integrity and credibility to the nation’s examination and admission processes. He also presented complaints from NANCES members regarding challenges encountered during the ongoing 2024 Direct Entry registration and requested additional registration centers for Direct Entry candidates.
